Programs 2008 - 2009

Next Program of the 2009 - 2010 Season starting in September

Current Programs of 2008 - 2009 Season - "last Program of 2008-2008 Season"

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 at 7:30 pm.

DOWNTOWN FOXBORO all decked out for the SesquiCentennial in 1928.
But what critical decision made by Foxboro voters more than 100 years ago
shapes the downtown business area that we know today?

On May 26th, town historian Jack Authelet will give the 2008-2008 final historical presentation, "From There to Here in Foxboro - twists and turns in becoming the community we are today.""

Presentations of the Foxboro historical society are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

This will be Foxboro history like you never heard it before as Town Historian Jack Authelet leads a journey into the past to examine that which almost never was and that which could have been.

"Looking back on pivotal moments in our history reveals much about ourselves," said Jack, "and it is interesting and revealing to occasionally ask ‘what if" and to reflect upon the ‘if only' when discussing decisions that were made over the years."

How different would our path from there to here have been? How would it have affected the community we have become today?

During the program, Jack will share some material ranging from the "hard to believe" to "it couldn't have happened here." Audience participation will be encouraged and the author of four books on Foxboro history and countless newspaper articles on local history offers one teaser question to give the audience a head start on the discussion: "What one ballot question answered in the affirmative made the single greatest difference in the Foxboro we know today?"

The historical society will meet in the Fuller Room of the Boyden Library (at the corner of Bird Street and Baker Street in Foxboro center) on Tuesday, April 28th, at 7:30 pm. Presentations of the Foxboro historical society are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

The historical society generally meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
